Mary’s Summer Strings Academy
Through Mary’s Summer Strings Academy and under the instruction of Jackie Robbins the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony offers intermediate and advanced young string players an opportunity to expand and enhance their technical and artistic skills. During the six-week session of reading orchestra and ensemble music of well-known composers, participants will learn how to play well together and improve ensemble performance skills.

This program is designed for intermediate and advanced string players for the high school (including recently graduated high school) and middle school musicians. You must be able to play at the level of the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony. Please visit the audition page to see TCYS requirements.

Jackie Robbins, Mary’s Summer Strings Academy Director
Jackie Robbins, born in New York City in 1950, resides in Jensen Beach, Florida. She is an accomplished free-lance cellist who has had a diverse musical career, ranging from Oberlin College to the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. She teaches cello privately, plays in various chamber groups, and also with the Lee Oskar & Friends Blues Orchestra.
At age 60, Jackie returned to college to acquire her B.A. and pursue her "Therapeutic Music" passion, while working on efforts to implement clinical research and workshops involving live music at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance community. Jackie has recorded on major movie, documentary and I-Max soundtracks.
She played cello or fretless electric bass on albums with contemporary singer-songwriters including Dave Matthews, Lee Oskar, Cris Williamson, Bonnie Raitt. She has shared live performance stages over the years with musicians backing up names such as Tony Bennet, Joan Baez, Jackson Brown, Bonnie Raitt, Barry Manilow, The Canadian Brass, Cris Williamson, June Millington, Mannheim Steamroller, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and John Pizzarelli. In the classical symphonic field, she has accompanied a vast number of world-class classical stars.
Ms. Robbins offers palliative music to the Treasure Coast and is certified in clinical music for dementia patients. She is currently free-lancing, playing cello in orchestra, opera, and ballet companies across Florida. She has been a nominee for the Martin County Arts Council Marties Award and is a three year recipient of grants awarded by the Women Supporting the Arts organization. Ms. Robbins coaches and teaches individual and group cellists at a variety of sites and is an active mentor for the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony.
